Mass Effect lift achievement

I'm sure that this has already been asked, but I couldn't find it. I was just wondering for the tech and biotic achievements, like use lift 75 times, if it actually had to be in combat or if you can just use them while wandering around?Mass Effect lift achievement
You can use it on objects in the environment like crates etc., you can use it on the Rapid Tranit things on the citadel (I think) and, of course, on enemies. It won't work if you just walk about using it.
