Even though such systems were in place all the way back in Halo 2, I think that Halo 3 really set the trend for online Xbox 360 games. Many hit titles before it, like FM2, Gears, GRAW2, etc... made you actually search manually and even after you joined a game session, you either had to wait until the game/round was over, for enough players to join it, or whenever the supposedly afk host started the game. Now, any games released after Halo 3, including COD4, PGR4, GTA IV, BF:BC, etc find full games with just the press of a button - and games that will start without the host having to start it.Seems like Halo 3 made automated matchma ...
I like it better that way. More the way CoD 4 did it where i can pick the gametype i want to play too. But it makes for games that start a lot faster and i can get way more games in when i'm playing. The only downside is you don't get to pick the map you want to play on, which i can deal with. Prevents me form picking a favorite and only going there when i start playing. In Gears i would sometimes have to wait 20 minutes before a game would start. And don't even talk about when hosting. well in Bad Company you can ask it to find a game for your squad playing the map of your choice...

So i guess they've fixed the only issue i had with it. :)
